In my personal quest to find more efficent ways to make money offline I have decided to rent my hotel’s meeting room. Full price would be $50 a day. Not to bad as it accomidates roughly 16 people. So minus myself I can seat up to 15 others per class. Follow closely. I have been planning to run a “Getting started online” “blogging”, “affiliate marketing/sales”, etc classes. I figure the classes would run for 1-2 hours and after my initial run I believe I would be able to schedule upto 2-3 classes a day. This creates leads for me to further instruct; as well as, business associates for future products.
It also will have the potential to earn some extra income. This can propel many of my projects from the ground floor where they currently are resting. I believe this is something that everyone should try no matter their niche. From self help, to blogging advise, affiliate sales, email marketing, etc. It can be done for anything. And the potential to maximize your earnings by keeping everything in house offers you the ability to be a super affiliate and a great mentor.
A little math is in order. Fifteen people at $50 a head… Ok easy enough right… $750. Minus the room, some snacks and drinks. $600 if I have it catered. Roughly 2 hours per class. Thats a pretty nice $300 per hour salary. The trick of this is to be prepared and honest, and thorough. Make sure to get your affiliate links in front of them. I would make it seamless and mandatory as much as you can to have them signing up for your PepperJam affiliate link, your aweber link, and your market leverage link. For me it would be hostgator for hosting but you may have your own. Do you see that the potential is much higher than just $600 take home for 2 hours or so of work pay? In reality it is much more over a much longer period.
I will be attempting this soon and I will be digitally recording the classes I offer for both viddler, and podcasting. This offers two more streams of revenue online or a means of viral marketing or free gift for the online world. Another way to extend this would be to offer to those which have already attended your offline classes a wonderful experience of “one on one”, or even small groups of say 10 or so via a Ustream room which is private. You could charge for the acess weekly or monthly as a way of supplimenting your already growing blog, affiliate marketing campaign or even your email marketing.
I have been toying with providing a .pdf version of the presentation which I will be preparing with all the viral marketing for my own brand as well as all my own affiliate links plugged in through trackers to see how well it is going.
Again it is easy, and smart business, even if you had a partner to help you the math states it all fifteen people at $50 a head minus lunch and drinks on top of affiliate links being used and residual income from many different streams. This seems like a no brainer to me like, and easy way to gain a foothold on your own local and soon regional market. While I project $50 a head for my local first timer, I would say if you are confident and can put on a great and engaging show you should be able to charge and have everyone come back at around $100 a head easily. The more you do it the easier it will be to draw folks in at whichever price point you wish to.
I challenge everyone to research this and publish your own findings about such things. Remember in a digital world, that offline has as much oppurtunity for those willing to seize it. I will be making this my next big project. Look for a special section with updates, pictures and more information very soon.

This is an excellent idea. Meeting people face to face and creating a relationship with them will go further than selling an ebook or talking online. The people that will attend the classes will feel more loyal to you because they have met you and gotten to know you. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Never thought of doing something like that. That kind of interaction with people can really create some opportunities.

Dude….this is something I’ve really been thinking about, and I think it is awesome that you are looking to tackle it.
Do you plan to go after the average joe person, or, will you promote your seminars to local businesses as well?
Only reason I ask, is, local businesses may be more wiling to part with higher prices as a business expense, so, I say you should target both! Either way, there are no rules man, do it, work it…and let us know about it!
At first I will be trying this on the general public. Once I have sharpened myself a little I believe I will refocus and offer this to a more business related group. A nice lunch and tax write off, maybe even a certification

Definitely a great idea and I look forward to hearing your successes. I think the toughest part will be recruiting your first couple classes, and then putting on a quality presentation. Once you have the first couple classes done you should be able to get some good testimonials as well as hone your presenter skills. Please keep us updated!
I agree with egk, starting up will probably be the hardest part there is. I’m sure though that you will be able to handle it after a few tries.

That sounds like a cool idea to run. I can see that there could easily be a good need for that especially in a bigger city.

I think people would sign up for those classes. Let us know how it goes. I think with so much available online, people get overwhelmed and some would really appreciate meeting face to face with a person. It’s easier to trust a person than it is to trust what you read online. Plus, this gives people a chance to ask you questions.
