One thing I am sure you have found by now is a lack of realistic advice or how to’s about making money online. They are out there don’t get me wrong, but for the most part they would have you pay $7 for them and then just resell to someone else and so on and so forth. This type of plan is not without its merrits, but I can tell you really want to get in on the big stuff, not any of this small time kids crap.
Some of this information is taken from my upcoming E-Book that will cover everything from planning, strategizing, deploying and dealing with the daily operation of your blog. I won’t go off on to big a plug here but this guide will be filled with information for newbies and vets alike. Keep an eye out in the near future
Your going to need a new attitude first of all. You are going to be playing with the big guns now. To do this as a newbie is not impossible, but you will need some advice. Friends help as well. I can not stress enough the power of networking. As long as your not annoying you can make those connections and eventually put yourself on the inside of the track. Untill then take to heart these ten pieces of wisdom and just run with it. Success is not inevitable; However, if you never give up, and always innovate you can put yourself at the front of your niche.
1.) Getting an online money making project off the ground is probably harder than you might think.
A tremendous amount of people set out every day on the arduous journey to make money online. Most without a plan or realistic expectation, or even a timetable for their deployment and operation. If you are going to walk this road make sure you take in as much reading on the subject and filter out the 75% of B.S. your going to run across in the blogoshpere.
2.) The basic steps on starting a project: Choose one, do a lot of research, and just give it a go. Rinse and repeat.
Make sure your doing relevant research. Studying how to deploy ad’s will help but will not keep people interested enough to stay around if your content is totally clueless. So many blogs come and go because of this and people become disenfranchised with the fact that they can not keep traffic. Most will need to do a bit of research before finding them self comfortable with an audience and just letting the creativity naturally flow
3.) Even if your first project doesn’t make you a lot of money to begin with, you can always try another one.
The old cliché “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” comes to mind. Redouble your efforts, triple your research, quadruple your networking. No one said making money online was really easy. Albeit many want to sell you that green pasture cheap don’t fall for it. Anything worth anything in life takes hard work. Just keep trying. If you don’t give up after your first failure your already ahead of hundreds of thousands of startups that never come back. And to just add something here failure is only failure if you don’t learn what went wrong. Capitalize on this.
4.) Depending on the time and finances involved, it’s ok to start more than one project.
Having your hands in more than one honey pot isn’t a crime as long as your not sacrificing long term success for short term gain. I don’t recommend taking on to much when your starting your first blog for making money online as its going to take a lot to get peoples attention and keep them interested in the first few months.
5.) Gauging the stability of each money-making opportunity is important. Before you quit your day job, make sure you have back-up plans.
I highly recommend you think twice before leaving that day job, as bad as it is, it will support you. So many people jump into this and think that this industry can support the new startup. It will not. You will need to have a very good grasp on things before you should do this. No one said it would be easy and like most other business your going to be up late and up even earlier to make this work and hold the job down as well. Think of it this way though you are investing in yourself.
6.) You can start making money online for free - or just for a very small cost.
Of course your can. Its all relative, things like ad sense can bring in a little money every day, affiliate marketing a little more and these all use things that you would already be paying for to have acess to the internet anyway. Be aware that starting out your network is not going to be very large and your not going to be privy to the next big thing that the affiliate marketers are pushing, so you may not be making a killing, but you will be earning. Thats a start. No more excuses.
7.) The cliche - “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is” - applies in all types of online money making opportunities.
99% of the time this is true. I have run across a few things out of a plethora of many many many things that actually were great. Be calm when approaching a new offer. You might just be getting fleeced and not know it.
8.) Don’t just copy a good money making idea. Innovate. Invent.
One thing that makes this niche so cut throat is that after a few days an item or idea is resold, repackaged, reused, and recycled, and then cut up and sold for less in a water downed tasteless version. Try to be on the forefront of the process. Be creative and create your own success. This isnt to say you shouldn’t cash in on others ideas, after all someone is going to buy them one way or another. Just don’t focus only on that. The guy at the top of the pyramid is making the most.
9.) A certain level of technical knowledge is useful, but you don’t need to be a ‘full techy’ person to make money off the web.
Their are many people who are technical noobs. Don’t fear if you don’t know these things. I would suggest you avoid reviewing hardware though at this point as you may just be laughed at.
10.) When deciding what online business you wish to start, check your passion. What do you really, really want to do?
This is probably the biggest mistake any startup is going to make. They pick something that they just can not elaborate on and thereby totally alienate the reader who really is dedicated to the subject material. The first thing before anything you should do is check out what your really interested in and see how that applies to making money.
The smart ones will run with something which they have a real passion for and that others can feel in the writing. Although a few can breakout in niches which are profitable and not really have a clue, its more the luck of being in the right place at the right time and knowing the right people. I would not try to go down that road. Pick a passion. Pick something you are knowledgeable about and run with it. This alone will put you ahead of 50% of the startups out their every day.
If you can take to heart these ten things I am willing to wajor that you will be successful in the long term. Just remember never give up. And careful who you make friends with. Like in any business their are many unscrupulous peoples out and about searching for people to exploit to their own means and profit. While you may be good intentioned your going to need to have some thicker skin and be weary of who you do what for.

Ben, you’ve done it again. Great information for those looking to get into MMO. There is just too much info out there that tries to sell you on products and services. It’s refreshing to get it for free for those who are looking.
EcoJason’s last blog post..Jay Leno’s green garage
Great post Ben. I think most people new to MMO (including myself) try to dive in too deep too quick and end up just spinning their wheels. Great set of tips for the newbie.
Great advice Ben. I have a small disagreement with point 8 (don’t copy). I think it’s fine to copy as long as you add a twist to your stuff. This would be your experience and added value.
@xpsave - By all means if you can replicate and be profitable you can, what I really meant by that was that so many people only copy one idea and wonder why they are not being as successful as their peers. Variety is the spice of life. Besides thats what decent PLR products are good for
Great post Ben..
Worth spending time to read the whole of it
6th and 10th points are well explained.
Chetan’s last blog post..Brand yourself and gain subscribers with Launchpad
There really are some good ideas in that post that a lot of people starting a biz don’t even think about in terms of saving money.
Keep putting up posts like these and that RSS count will increase a lot more. Cracking stuff
I agreed with number 9 entirely, and concur with xpsave’s comments on the one before that. The more projects, the better btw.
cracking stuff man; keep it up
I use my blog to make money online, just about anyone can do it. http://carmiKayak.com All of these tips are great and I wish everyone the best of luck
Great stuff.
I just found your blog and love it.

@paul Thanks buddy. I have some very interesting content for this week I think you will enjoy it.
Great post Ben, good advice for anyone to look at and follow. I especially like the warning about who you make friends with……gotta watch folks man, don’t get so “start struck” that you end up doing tons of work for someone with nothing in return.
I’m anxious to see the book…..looking for affiliates
