Technorati!

Technorati at this point has indexed any blog which receives at least one hit a day, or so they say. Which at this point I will not argue with as they have breached the 14 million blog mark which is more than I will ever have time to see. If by some chance you are not familiar with Technorati then either you live under a rock, or you have just started blogging. To make a long argument short Technorati is the authority in the blogosphere at this point. While many have tried to copy none have come close. At some point if you watch your analytics for where your traffic is coming from you will see from time to time that you too receive a few visitors every now and again.

I also recommend you check out your niches competition on Technorati to see what your up against and find ideas for new post’s and maybe even a joint venture or two. If you take the time to search or just poke around I assure you that you will find some pretty awesome blogs you may have not found otherwise. Networking is a huge thing for the success of any blog.

Now here is a good question how can we leverage this to your blogs advantage? First you will want to claim your blog as it is probably already indexed. If not then you will want to submit it and setup an account to get things rolling along in our latest project. Once you have done this we can start the real fun. As you can see blogs are assigned a “rank” and “authority”. You have probably already figured this out but links between blogs can pass off some of the link juice, and in limited terms this can be beneficial to your blog.

A few ways to use this to your advantage is to become a top commentator, submit a guest post or have a link on a site Technorati considers important. An easy link from my site while it may not have 1000’s of authority will get you started. Comment on this post and submit inside the comment the link to your Technorati page. This will looking something like this except be a hot link.

http://www.technorati.com/blogs/www.benjaminpatton.com

I will then take all the comments this post receives each day and copy the blogs URL’s from them into the body of the post (I have “nofollow” on my in comments to discourage spam). This will instantly give you an authority “vote” from BenjaminPatton.com. The higher your authority, the better, but this is a start, or even an easy way to add a little more to your existing score.

I will also visit your Technorati profile and add you as one of my favorites - this will help spread the word on your blog within Technorati. All of you that participate need to do the same for everyone else. It’s easy to do and we will all benefit from it.
